From family-friendly events focused on the wonders of winter to attractions that will shield you against the chill, there’s always something fun to do if you’re willing to brave the weather. Here are our top eight picks for things to do in Dearborn and Metro Detroit this winter.
1. Have a Blast at Winter Blast
If you think there’s nothing to do this winter, you haven’t experienced Winter Blast. For four weekends in January and February, you and your family can enjoy a plethora of winter activities at Detroit’s Campus Martius Park, including ice sculptures, ice skating, local bands and roasting marshmallows. The best part is that each weekend festival is free!
2. Do as the Polar Bears Do
Enjoy the Arctic wildlife at the Detroit Zoo. Although some exhibits and attractions are closed for the season, a variety of habitats remain open all year long. The zoo even hosts fun winter events that you and your kids are sure to enjoy, such as Wild Winter, where you can get up close and personal with animals who love these colder months, and Cubs’ Choice Dance, a fun evening of dancing that your kids will love.
3. Take in a Show
Let the warmth of stage lights keep you toasty from the frigid night air as you take in a show at one of Dearborn’s or Metro Detroit’s many performing arts venues. The Ford Community & Performing Arts Center features entertainment the whole winter through. Or, head into the city for an evening at the theater, such as the Detroit Repertory Theatre, the oldest professional non-profit playhouse in Michigan.

If you love football and you have a hankering to bowl, why not mix it up with Metro Detroit’s favorite pastime? Invented by Detroiters, this game blends the two sports in a zany activity that people of all ages enjoy. The best part is that you can experience your Fowling adventure indoors at nearby Hamtramck’s The Fowling Warehouse.
